Last year I posted my first impressions of the NARS Sheer Glow Foundation after picking up a sample pot from Space NK when looking for a foundation to wear on my wedding day. I'm very fussy with base products and after finding that I really, really liked it, I dug out my bank card and splashed out £31.00 on the full size 30ml bottle.
So why do I really, really like it? Well first of all the ingredients - it doesn't break me out (it is actually advertised as non-comedogenic) and doesn't contain SPF. It is actually quite hard to find a foundation that doesn't contain one, making NARS Sheer Glow my go-to foundation for nights out or events that involve photography.
Secondly the formula and finish - the liquid foundation provides medium coverage and is very buildable to achieve full coverage if needed. Sheer Glow blends easily to a "satin matte" finish, which is ideal for someone like me who doesn't like a dewy finish but wants to look like they're naturally glowing from within! What I would mention here is: don't be put off by the fact that this is advertised for normal to dry skin if your skintype does not fall into this category. I have oily/combination skin and it still works - BUT I do have to use primer first and then powder through the day to make sure it stays put. I do this anyway so it doesn't bother me, but if this sounds like too much hassle, then this may be a sticking point.
Thirdly, NARS extensive shade range means that it's very easy to find the right shade for your skin. Mont Blanc is the shade I was matched with and is one of the lightest shades available. With pink undertones, it works really well with my pale pallor and doesn't need lots of work to get it right.
A negative of NARS Sheer Glow for me is echoed by many, many others - it does not come with a pump. You can buy one separately for £3.00, but with the foundation being pricey on its own, it is something you begrudge paying extra for. Plus the lid doesn't even fit on when you use the pump, so after losing the one I did buy, I didn't bother replacing it because it was such a faff to keep swapping them over.
All in all, this is one high end foundation that for me, does live up to the hype and I will re-purchase when it runs out. You can pick up one of your own here but don't be afraid to go into a store and get a sample if you're not sure!
Are you a fan of the NARS Sheer Glow Foundation? What is your favourite high end foundation?

I finally got colour matched for this after your glowing review! I just need to use up my other foundations to justify it :)

DeleteI've been wanting to try this for a while, maybe next time I walk past a Space NK I'll try get a sample, especially after reading your review. It does sound like my sort of foundation so it's definitely one for me to consider.

Could be worth a try! xx
DeleteI have this and I really like it, although I think I prefer the finish of my YSL one :) x

The no SPF is very persuasive..! I was also put off by the skin type tag it had so knowing it worked on your combination skin is handy. Thanks for the tips!
ReplyDeleteWhich YSL one do you use?xx
DeleteI hear nothing but good things about this foundation but for some reason NARS base shades never match my skin tone, which is really annoying! x
