Prime Time

Primer: making beauty products last for longer and making little old me much happier. Who wants to be constantly touching up their makeup? Not me that's for sure. I also love the fact that many primers now are multi-tasking and come with additional benefits as well as longevity. I have quite a few different types that I rely on on a regular if not daily basis.

Foundation
After raving about the Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer SPF15 after only trying a sachet, it was only a matter of time before I bought one of the tubes. I went for the cheaper 10ml option, but I'm hoping this will still last quite awhile as a little goes a very long way. The cream-silicone gel formula feels super smooth but not slippy on the skin and also has anti-inflammatory properties thanks to the ingredient Zinc Oxide. Believe the hype on this one people - it's like a little piece of magic that keeps my foundation looking fresh and flawless all the live long day.

Eyeshadow
I've used quite a few eyeshadow primers in my time and the Yves Rocher Fixing Eyelid Primer* is a really good mid price range option at £12.50. The nude shade evens out the colour of the lids and provides a smooth and hydrating base due to the inclusion of Camelia Oil. What I love about this primer is that it not only delays the dreaded fading and creasing of eyeshadow but also subtly boosts the colour, making it stronger and more radiant.

Eyelashes
This is my second tube of the Jane Iredale PureLash Lash Extender and Conditioner. We had a few years apart and I'm not sure why, as it does so much good for my lashes, which get quite weak from mascara and eyelash curlers. This creamy, white formula not only primes them for mascara by making them thicker and longer but is also nourishing, meaning lashes are less likely to dry out and split. When I use this on a regular basis I find that my lashes fall out less. It also adds some much needed oomph to mascara and depending on what mascara I use, I don't always need to use as much.

Lips
I first used the Green People Enrich and Enhance Lip Primer* for my wedding day, as I knew my lipstick would struggle through all the talking, eating and drinking. What I love about this is that it's actually a lip balm and primer in one; it nourishes the lips with Sunflower Seed Oil, Beeswax and Carnauba Wax and provides a smooth, colourless canvas for lipstick, whilst noticeably keeping the colour put for longer. When the colour does begin to fade, it fades more evenly than without the primer.

Are you a fan of primers? Which primers do you love?

  6. I bought the new Urban Decay lipstick primer but I've been skipping lipstick quite a lot recently so haven't really had a chance to test it out. I really should get on to that! x

    1. I used that primer years ago but I never re-purchased, it worked well from what I remember but I grew to dislike the silicone feel. Agree on the skincare prepping :-) xx
