I am pleased to report that facial SPF is now consistently in my skincare routine and the only time I skip it is if I'm planning to stay in all day. Over the winter I was using a SPF20 cream by the natural brand Jason, but now it's summer I've upped it to SPF50 in the form of the La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL SPF50+ Dry Touch Gel Cream.
La Roche-Posay do a fantastic range of suncare for the face and body, for both adults and for children, in many different formulas and SPF ratings. This summer they also released this #SkinChecker video featuring some very cute dalmatians with a very important message about caring for yours and your loved ones' skin in the sun. I have quite a few moles on my face and body and in light of the fact that 90% of melanoma cases can be treated effectively, I know how important it is to keep an eye on any changes and protect my skin with a SPF.
What I love about La Roche-Posay's facial SPF in particular is that they have different products for dry skin, normal, combination and oily skin. The Anthelios XL SPF50+ Dry Touch Gel Cream is suitable for oily/combination skin and has also been tested on sensitive skin. It is fragrance and paraben free, water resistant, photostable (not affected by light), with UVA and UVB protection and is marketed as non-comedogenic (doesn't block pores). The tube is 50ml in size and is £17.00, though can be bought for £16.50 online here.
When La Roche-Posay say this has a dry touch texture, they aren't lying! You have to work quick with massaging this cream into the skin, otherwise it doesn't absorb properly and ends up collecting and rolling in little flakes off your face when you try to apply something else on top of it! I apply it on top of my moisturiser and under my foundation primer. It leaves a matte finish and although it does have a slight traditional SPF scent to it, this disappears very quickly. It also hasn't broken me out at all, so if you're spot prone like me then do consider giving it a try.
Have you tried the La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL SPF50+ Dry Touch Gel Cream? What is your current facial SPF of choice?

P.S. This post contains a PR sample. This does not affect my opinion of the product.
Well done you for getting to grips with an SPF. I'm a total newbie to it, although I've added it into my routine since Summer. Better late than never? I really like La Roche-Posay so I'll have to check this one out.

I'm so glad I've tried it! xx
DeleteSounds like a great choice I love a very similar one from Vichy!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I haven't tried Vichy SPFs before xx
DeleteI have the Comfort Cream SPF 50+ of this range and I love it :) it feels so hydrating and smooths my skin out wonderfully :) but where has the sun gone?

As I write this comment it is pouring down and has been all day :-( xx
DeleteI really like that they cater for different skin types as somebody with really oily skin isn't going to want the same kind of products that I do for my dry skin x

Exactly! More brands should cater to different skin types like this when it comes to suncare xx
DeleteThis sounds good, I'm impressed it dries matte!
ReplyDeleteTara x
Yep, no shine or SPF slick with this one! xx
DeleteThis sounds perfect! Lightweight but high-protection SPFs are so hard to come by at a reasonably price and I have blemish-prone skin so a matte finish is a bonus! xx

And it won't break you out either :-) xx
