5 Lighter Formulas for Warmer Weather

As the seasons change, inevitably so do my beauty products to suit. With the generally warmer and more humid weather around (well not all the time, it is England!), my skin becomes more suited to lighter formulas with both makeup and skincare. I've been trying out some new products alongside some old favourites and here's the current line up...

THE LIQUID SERUM | I've mentioned the Antipodes Hosanna H20 Intensive Plumping Serum a fair few times already over the last few months, but I love it. This serum has a very thin consistency making it super lightweight and quick to absorb, yet it perfectly delivers the dose of hydration my skin needs. I'm on my second bottle now and I have no doubt that I'll purchase it again in the future. You can read my full review of this product here.

THE MOUSSE FOUNDATION | When it comes to makeup and particularly foundation, most of the time I go for high coverage. However now it's summer and my skin is clearer, I've been wanting to go for a lighter base overall and let my concealer do the coverage work. I've been trying this out with the Claudia Louch Mousse Foundation* as my base, which to be honest, is a bit too light for me coverage wise as it's more akin to a tinted moisturiser, however the mousse formula is something else. It has a whipped texture that feels so unbelievably light and silky on the skin you don't know it's there, which is making me determined to get used to the coverage element.

THE CREAM EYESHADOW | I've barely touched my powder eyeshadows of late and for daytime especially I've been reaching for the KIKO Long Lasting Stick Eyeshadow in 06 Golden Brown*. This so lovely to use; it's super smooth, creamy and very pigmented, meaning you don't need a lot of product for bronzed, shimmering lids. Plus the cream formula means it lasts longer before fading, which is especially necessary when the sun is trying to break apart your makeup! I featured it not too long ago in my Save, Spend, Splurge: Cream Eyeshadow Sticks post here.

THE GEL BLUSH | This is a very new purchase and one I ummmed and ahhhed about for awhile before finally caving in. The lure of the bright and shiny new Bourjois Aqua Blush with a "water-light gel formula" was clearly too much! I went for the shade Pink Twice, which is a medium pink with blueish tones. It's quite sheer and more of a tinted gel, but you can easily build up the colour gradually for a fresh, radiant finish. The formula is literally weightless and looks so natural - in these ways its very similar to the Daniel Sandler Watercolour Fluid Blusher. I will report back on the 12 hour glow claims!

THE HYBRID MOISTURISER | With very similar qualities to the Antipodes serum is a moisturiser that's pretty new round these parts - the Origins GinZing Energy Boosting Moisturiser. I hadn't used a gel-cream formula before this (I usually go for a moisturiser that's a bit heavier on the skin and thicker in consistency) and it's been an absolute revelation. I was a little worried it wouldn't be hydrating enough, but in fact the Origins GinZing completely re-balances my skin; it moisturises yet has noticeably reduced excess oil and shine around my t-zone. I will pop up a full review of this soon because it has to be one of my top skincare discoveries so far this year.

What lighter formulas have you turned to for the warmer weather?

  7. I'm obsessed with the KIKO Golden Brown eyeshadow :) I haven't tried GinZing but I do have the similar Body Shop Vitamin C moisturiser and really like it. I think GinZing sounds perfect for when that's finished though! xx

    1. I have a feeling The Body Shop's version contains a drying alcohol, so the GinZing seems better ingredients wise xx

  8. I haven't really switched up my makeup as I still haven't got round to checking whether my lighter base I have is still good/matches my skin at the moment but my skincare has definitely changed. I've gone from needing all the moisture I can get to not really needing to use a moisturiser as my moisturising serum has been enough x
