As well as layering up my clothes in the really cold weather, I'm also layering up my skincare. This is the first year I've really listened to my skin and taken into account the effects of the weather, so I've changed my skincare accordingly. Cold weather outside and then central heating indoors means my skin easily gets dehydrated and I need to compensate by making sure my skincare routine really injects the lost moisture back into my skin. This stops the drier areas of my face become even more dry and the oily parts becoming even more oily (skin produces extra oil when it gets dry to try and hydrate it). So I thought I'd share with you the products I'm using regularly to combat dehydration and dryness - a selection of facial skincare winter saviours!
Once I've cleansed and exfoliated, I spritz on a layer of the Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic, which is effectively a hydrating toner. It contains lots of natural active ingredients such as Cucumber Extract, Geranium Essential Oil, Aloe Vera and Glycerin to soothe, hydrate and revitalise skin and re-balance it after cleansing. Full review here.
After toning I'll use some kind of serum and at the moment I'm trying Indeed Laboratories Hydraluron after receiving a trial size in the British Beauty Blogger Beauty Box. It contains high levels of intense, moisturising Hyaluronic Acid, which are designed to penetrate the surface of the skin and reach the deeper layers. It also means better absorption of any product you put on top of it. It's working really well for me at the moment and I think my skin looks healthier because of it. I've just bought the full size!
Once the serum has absorbed I'll apply a facial oil and my current oil of choice is the Antipodes Divine Face Oil. It's light, non-greasy and is packed full of different oils such as rosehip, avocado, jojoba and macadamia, which work together to hydrate, soften, regulate and balance skin. I also find it really soothing and calming on painful spots. Full review here.
Finally, if I feel my skin needs it, I'll apply a light layer of the Neal's Yard Power Berry Daily Moisture. It's lightweight and also contains Hyaluronic Acid, amongst lots of natural oils and extracts. It's light enough to use in the morning but hydrating enough to use at night. I love this because it absorbs quickly, isn't greasy and makes my skin look brighter.
I thought I'd also mention in this post the Una Brennan Rose Hydrate Intense Moisture Mask, which I don't use daily, but as and when I think my skin needs a more intense hydration hit. This is the only moisture mask I've ever tried, but it's very affordable at £8.99 if you don't want to stretch to the price of the Origins masks. The formula is creamy but (unexpectedly) contains little grainy bits, so it leaves skin smoother and brighter as well as giving it a moisture boost. Full review to come.

I didn't expect to like it so much - I guess I just thought it was an average, standard moisturiser. But it really is fab xx
DeleteHydraluron is so great for these cold, dry winter months! I discovered it last year and have been using it ever since.. it really makes a difference in my skin! :)

I know, it's been around so long and I avoided the hype, but eventually gave in! xx
DeleteI love layering products, the Antipodes oil looks lovely Xx
ReplyDeleteI cannot rate the oil enough - one of my favourite skincare products ever! xx
DeleteI always layer my skincare but yes I do change my moisturiser and serum to a more hydrating one in the cold weather. I do try and use a hydrating mast once every 2 weeks. I am currently using the Avene one but I am a little scared of using it often as it has Mineral Oil. Do you know if the Una Brenan has mineral oil in it too? If not, might be worth giving that a go.
ReplyDeleteMISSY IN THE MIRROR
I try and avoid Mineral Oil, so I don't think the Una Brennan mask has it in. You can see the ingredients here :-) http://www.boots.com/en/Superfacialist-Rose-Intense-Moisture-Mask-125ml_1277156/ xx
DeleteYes :-) I can't believe I got it as a magazine freebie! I would definitely purchase myself xx
