For Christmas my boyfriend bought me a few goodies from Lush and the Cupcake Fresh Face Mask was one of them. I hadn't tried this one before and I think he did well choosing this, as it's designed for oily skin. Cupcake has to be kept in the fridge as with all the Lush fresh face masks and is meant to be used within a month. This one has a thick, brown formula and smells gorgeous, just like mint chocolate!
Lush say, "Chocolate heaven for oily and teenage skin. Helps absorb excess oil and calm breakouts. Cocoa butter, linseed and cocoa powder soften with balancing peppermint, spearmint and sandalwood oils."
Unfortunately it also contains talc, which isn't one of my favourite ingredients as it makes me breakout if applied to my skin regularly. However I decided to give it a try and used it once a week, leaving it on my skin for ten minutes at a time.
Cupcake is a fantastic mask if you suffer with really oily skin. I used it a few times after some long, stressful days, which caused my skin to be much oiler than normal. It absorbs oil brilliantly and left my skin soothed and refreshed. However the rest of the time I found that it was a little drying. My skin type is oily/combination and this mask didn't react well with the drier parts of my face. It didn't really reduce my breakouts, but thankfully didn't cause any either!

The Verdict
Cupcake is a great, delicious smelling face mask, which will be a treat for really oily skins but I think other skin types would find it too drying. I would consider using it again just on my T-zone, but I think I'd just end up wasting some of the product considering it has to be used within a month. Unfortunately this face mask just isn't quite right for me.
The Lush Cupcake Fresh Face Masks costs £5.95 for a 75g tub. To view it on Lush's website, click here.
Have you tried Cupcake? What's your favourite face mask from Lush?

i tried this facemask and absolutely loved it - like you, i have quite oily skin and this works brilliantly! the 'use within a month' thing does annoy me, but i always seem to use it up and my empty black pots are stacking up for my free one next time i go shopping woo!

I need to remember to keep this pot - my last empty one I threw away by accident! :-( xx
DeleteThis is my favourite mask but I have really oily skin. This is a great review though because a lot of people with oily skin rave about it but it's not suited for less oily skin x
ReplyDeleteAw thanks Hayley :-) It was great for my super oily days, but they're so random and the face mask doesn't last very long!xx
DeleteOmg that looks delicious - I'd eat it! x
ReplyDeleteIt smells delicious too!!xx
DeleteI really love Cupcake and use it often in summer when my skin goes into oily-overdrive! I agree that it would definitely be way too overdrying for those who don't have very oily skin x

Yeah that would be the perfect time to use it!xx
DeleteI LOVE cupcake. I got it when they where out of Love Lettuce and I found this worked great! I used it every other day on my T-zone and I feel it really did clear up my skin!

I've never tried Love Lettuce. I like the sound of Mask of Magnaminty!xx
DeleteStill my favourite mask ever, rebalances skin and smells delicious. A chocolate without eating it :D x
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear it works for you :-) xx
DeleteI love the smell and texture of this, but when I tried it (years ago) it did break me out, unfortunately. I also agree that some of it goes to waste, as to use it all up before it goes off means facemask overload!

I think I may look at Mask of Magnaminty next - it's meant to be good for problem skin but it's not a fresh one and doesn't have to be used within a month xx
DeleteWould only be able to use this on my TZone as my cheeks get dryish in winter. Knowing me I'd end up not using it up in time though. It looks like a tub of Nutella - wouldn't have any problem using that up! xx
ReplyDeleteThe ones I've had I've never completely used up! I only use face masks once a week and you never seem to need a lot xx
DeleteThis sounds beautiful for oily skin!
ReplyDeleteIt's great for it for sure xx
DeleteI've never tried it, but I love the Oatifix face mask! It's great for my dry and sensitive skin ;)
ReplyDeleteI've never tried that one but it sounds delicious!xx
