So the other month I had a bit of a shopping spree and one of the things I picked up was a pack of four mini nail varnishes from Primark for just £2.00! I love my glitter nail varnishes, so I thought these would be great to add to my collection.
Unfortunately Primark don't have names or shade numbers for these and the box didn't state a name for the overall pack either. So maybe we'll just go with (from left to right) shade 1, 2, 3 and 4 for convenience sake!
Shade 1 is the stand out nail varnish for me, as it has the same effect as the Model's Own Beetlejuice range, where there are two colours and you see a different one depending on which way you look at your nails! It's quite a grungy Autumn look, softened by the pink. Shade 2 is a light gold, shade 3 is a purpley pink and shade 4 a lovely mid blue.
To achieve the finishes on the nail wheel I felt two coats of shades 1 and 4 was enough, but for shades 2 and 3 I used three coats for a little extra oomph. I also decided to apply shade 1 on my nails to get a better idea of the effect.
Now here's why I'm on the fence about these - they really, really smell! I know nail varnishes generally do, but these are definitely up a level. It reminded me of a really chemical smell, like paint thinner or white spirit. I have no idea why, if it's a different ingredient to normal perhaps? Or whether they've missed an ingredient? My nails seemed ok after removing the nail varnish.
So now I have four very pretty nail varnishes that it just seems such a shame not to use, even if they did only cost £2.00. Maybe I need a peg on my nose?!
Have you tried Primark nail varnishes? Did anyone else think they were pretty strong smelling?
Beauty Bird xx
I've never tried the Primark nail polishes but I definitely want to get this set after seeing this post, solely for Shade 1, it's so pretty! Hopefully I'll be able to put up with that smell :) x x
ReplyDeleteIt is a great shade! It's worth the £2.00 to try even if you end up not being able to put up with the smell :-) xx
DeleteWow that really is like Beetlejuice! I love all of these colours and seem reasonable quality even if they do smell.. :) xx
ReplyDeleteThe colours are lovely, they had quite a few different sets too. They're fab other than the smell, it really is strong lol xx
DeleteGorgeous colours, especially for fall! Too bad about the smell though, might have to try them for £2 x
ReplyDeleteThey are a bargain! I'll just have to get that peg...! ;-) xx
DeleteOMG I know what you mean about the smell! My sister was using one the other night and I could smell it down the hallway, so strong! Lovely shades though x

I thought I was being OTT about it but it really gets up your nose! I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks they smell!xx
DeleteI love metallic nail colours! I had no idea that Primark did nail varnish either x
ReplyDeleteI think the beauty range might be fairly recent. In my local Primark the nail varnishes were on a little stand by the accessories, but very easy to miss!xx
DeleteI really like shade 1! I thought it looked like one of the beetle juice polishes aswell

I really do love the Beetlejuice effect!xx
DeleteThey're lovely colours! Shame about the smell :-( Does the smell linger on your nails or is it only when applying the polish?
ReplyDeleteThe smell does linger for awhile afterwards, but only if you put your nose close to your nails! After a day the smell completely goes xx
DeleteI have this pack but I've actually only tried out number 2 for some reason.
ReplyDeleteCannot wait to try out number 1 now! :)

I haven't tried the others yet, but think I'm going to go for the blue one next!xx
DeleteShade 1 looks so pretty, shame about the smell though

I their whole beauty range is fairly new!xx
DeleteI picked this set up a few weeks ago and not even tried it yet! My little girl wants me to do her nails with these but if the smell's that bad may have to apply it in the garden! x
ReplyDeleteYeah I would definitely suggest that or least put a window open! I was thinking of doing that next time xx
DeleteI will deffinately be picking up a set of these next text I pop into primark, I think I can deal with the stink, I was just worried they would chip really easily so never bought some before! Would love it if you could take a look at my blog -

I don't usually comment on chipping, only because it can depend on so many things as well as the nail varnish itself. For £2.00 it's worth trying and seeing how you like it though! :-)
DeleteWill check out your link thanks xx
