Guest Post - Never Too Broke for Beauty: Favourite Products for Disguising Spot Prone Skin

Hello, my name is Katy and I've been asked to write a guest post for Ramblings of a Beauty Bird. When I was asked to write a guest post I was very flattered because it is such a great blog! I didn't have to think twice about it because anyone who follows Beauty Bird on Twitter will know that she is one of the nicest bloggers on the block!

Normally, you'll find me over at Never Too Broke for Beauty where I mainly post reviews about lovely cosmetics. When I was asked to be a guest blogger I was a bit stumped for ideas, but then I had a huge breakout - I'm talking spots galore all over my chin. With this came a surge of inspiration, I'll write a post about my favourite products for disguising spot prone skin!

I often spend my mornings in a state of panic and desperation trying to cover up a new breakout and I feel like after years of practice I've got this routine down to an art form. I'm not saying my skin looks flawless but it looks a darn sight better after I've applied my makeup than before!

My current favourite products for covering spot prone skin include:

Vichy Dermablend's Corrective Foundation £15.50
I talk about this foundation a lot over at my blog because to date it is the best foundation I have ever used!! It is a full coverage foundation that is designed for disguising problem skin. Although it is a full coverage foundation it isn't thick and it doesn't look heavy once applied to this skin. In fact, since I've been using it, I've received lots of compliments about how good my skin looks and who doesn't appreciate the odd compliment from time to time?

Benefit Boi-ing Concealer £16.50
This is a concealer that some people love and some hate but I'm all about the love, although I know Beauty Bird isn't a huge fan! Boi-ing is a very creamy concealer that gives great coverage for those angry areas. I find it to be build-able and perfect for covering scars as well as fresh spots!

E.L.F Complete Coverage Concealer £3.50
Boi-ing comes complete with a hefty price tag, so if you're looking for something a little more affordable the E.L.F Complete Coverage Concealer is a bargain! I love this concealer palette for a number of reasons, the first is that it only costs £3.50, the second is that the concealer does offer build-able, medium coverage and the third is the variety of shades. This concealer comes with four shades, two with pink undertones and two with yellow. It is really important when disguising blemishes to use yellow toned concealers, as these take away redness. If you use a pink toned concealer it will draw light to the problem area and therefore draw attention to it. Pink tones are great for lightening dark circles under the eyes.

Now I realise that a mineral or powder foundation is sorely missing from this list. I've tried lots of powder and mineral foundations but never found one that I am completely happy with. It's really important to use power to set your foundation and concealer to help it stay in place longer. If anyone has any recommendations for great mineral foundations please put you answers on a postcard and post them to Never too Broke for Beauty, Bloggers Land, Bloggerssphere!

I hope you've enjoyed my guest post and thanks to Beauty Bird for letting me have my own little ramble on her part of the Internet!

  1. I have been umming and ahhing over whether or not to give Boi-ing a go. It's such a lot of money to pay for something that may or may not work for me, and as I need it more for my under-eye area I am really not sure, as some peoplesay this is not the concealer for that. I currently use Erase Paste and I do really like it, but it doesn't completely cover things up and it creases a bit too :(
Great post, will have to check out the Elf concealer for my occasional blemishes as it's such a reasonable price!
